Harvest Baptist Church Reassembly Plan

May 20, 2020

Dear church family,
Thank you so much for your patience, flexibility, and faithfulness during the past two months as we have been streaming services instead of meeting in person. It’s been a challenge, and all of you have been so encouraging to us and to one another. I am so thankful for all of you!

Many of you have asked about our plan for getting back to “normal.” Below you will find a bullet-point plan that should answer most of your questions. While I believe these guidelines are appropriate, helpful, and reasonable, we must be flexible with exact details as we regather. If any of the below must change, we will communicate these changes through 1) your shepherding group deacon, 2) the website (harvestrockhill.org), 3) Calling Post, and 4) all social media outlets.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Program, logistics, and sanitation information for Phases 1 & 2 (Reassemble and Refocus)

  • Program

    • No children’s programs including nurseries, Sunday School, or Children’s Church.

    • Teens and Children will be welcome in the auditorium for Sunday School and the main service but must sit with family. The service might change to accommodate this reality.

  • Logistics

    • Limit to 25% capacity* at any one time (150 people). An overflow room (the Hansen Building) will be available for use if necessary.

    • To maintain distance, we will be seating every other row. Open and closed rows will be clearly marked.

    • All who come should sit with family. Families should distance from one another (3 chairs between families, or about 6 feet).

    • Rooms are available for diaper changing or if a child needs to “take a break.” Parents should seek to re-enter the service and not congregate in the nursery.

    • Blue Cards and offering will be collected at the back of the auditorium. • Sanitation

    • Facial coverings are welcomed but are not required.

    • No use of hymnbooks or pew Bibles.

    • No food events (including no coffee / tea or snacks provided between services).

    • Staff / volunteers will wipe down doors and switches after each service.

    • Staff / volunteers will wipe down bathroom counters between services.

    • Water fountain will be closed.

WHEN ARE WE DOING IT?

Three phases to get us back to normal

  • Reassemble: May 24–July 26

    • During this phase, we encourage those 65+ or with a high-risk health condition to stream services from home.

    • Sunday “Dual Service Schedule” resumes:

      • 8:15am Morning Worship [live service only]

      • 9:45am Combined Sunday School [live service + stream]

      • 11:00am Morning Worship [live service + stream]

      • 6:00pm Evening Service [live service + stream]

    • Wednesday Night: Family prayer and encouragement [live service + stream]

    • No choir in the service; no choir rehearsals.

  • Refocus: August 2–23

    • Drop recommendation for those 65+ to stream from home only. Attend only if one feels comfortable coming in person.

    • Reintroduce Youth Program, Children’s Sunday School, and Children’s Church.

    • Maintain social distancing logistics and sanitation procedures.

    • Choir rehearsals resume. • Relaunch: August 30

    • Planning to have a Sunday School Kickoff and Celebration for the fall quarter on August 30.

    • Regular Sunday School Schedules with all classes and programs functioning at pre-lockdown levels will begin the following week (September 6).

    • Resume Truth Trackers and Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting.

HOW CAN I HELP?

  • All are welcome to attend as long as you are not currently exhibiting flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath). Government guidelines request that “individuals with serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and those whose immune system is compromised such as by chemotherapy for cancer and other conditions requiring such therapy” should stay home during this time. If you are not well, we encourage you to let us know and watch the service from home.

  • We will not police or enforce social distancing; however, we will encourage it. For the time being, our greetings should be “non-contact.” Smiling and waving are appropriate! As hard as it will be, please refrain from shaking hands or other physical contact with those outside your family.

  • If you test positive for COVID-19 and have been to a church service, please inform the office as soon as possible (welcome@harvestrockhill.org).

  • We have been asked to prevent gatherings of people in entry and exit points. Please refrain from congregating in the Welcome Center or hallways after the service.

  • Please maintain strict personal hygiene during this time. Be considerate of others and follow guidelines for coughing, washing your hands often, and maintaining a safe personal distance from others. Make use of hand sanitizer.

  • Consider contributing to the Shepherds Fund (Harvest’s benevolence fund for those in need). Although we might be wrong, we anticipate that some of our families might go through financial difficulty in the next months. We would like this fund to be ready for those who have needs.

  • Help us keep the church clean and functional by taking care of your family’s belongings! After each service, please pick up any trash (papers, wrappers, etc.) belonging to you and dispose of it. Our cleaning staff will be extra busy keeping the church clean during this time. They will appreciate your help!

  • We could use volunteers to help wipe down doors and light switches after each service. Contact the office if you are interested in helping!

We love you and look forward to seeing you soon! God bless,

    Pastor Marshall
